ESO: Educational Society

Epsilon Sigma Omicron (ESO) is an honorary educational society open to all General Federation of Women's Clubs (federated) club members.  It began as an adult education program in Indiana in 1928 to assist and encourage clubwomen, individually or as a club, to read and study systematically.  Originally a national sorority, the ESO program became a permanent part of the GFWC Education Department.  <

The Altrurians Chapter of ESO, provides an incentive for our members to read a book they might not have otherwise. The motto is “Enlighten Your Own Pathway.” In addition to individual reading, our club members can participate in meetings that give them the opportunity for intelligent and insightful discussion of the many topics covered by the amazing assortment of books chosen by our members. These discussions often provide lots of laughter and fun, and sometimes provide the basis of lifelong friendships. ESO goals include:

♦ Encouraging clubwomen’s pursuit of higher education

♦ Networking and sharing interests with like-minded women

♦ Improving current and developing new study skills

♦ Encouraging the use of libraries

♦ Encouraging the formation of reading/study/discussion groups
